Tubby Chapman, born November 18, 1916 in Amherst, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully in Calgary on August 18, 2012 at the age of 95 years. He was a son of the late C. Borden and Alice (Parker) Chapman. In his early adult life, he worked in the gold mines of Quebec and played hockey whenever he could. Tubby moved to Calgary in the late 40’s after serving in the Canadian Army and working in his father’s clothing store in Nova Scotia. For most of his adult career, he was employed as a purchasing agent for the Sun Oil Company, now Suncor. He worked as a procurement Advisor to the Oilsands Team in San Francisco, designing and building the original Oil Sands Plant Tubby was a sharp, social, witty and hardworking man. He was also an avid sportsman enjoying golf and curling. He was a member of the Earl Grey Country Club for over 50 years in Calgary and Camel Back in Arizona where he wintered. Tubby is survived by his daughter, Beverly Chapman Kent, two grandchildren, Nicolle Zapien and Dylan Gottfried, two great grandchildren, Alma and Caetano, his brother Allison as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins in Calgary, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. He was predeceased by his wife Bernice “Bunny”, his son Doug, brothers Choppy and Jack and sister Muriel.
There will be a Celebration Gathering to honour Tubby at the Earl Grey Golf Club on Friday, September 14, 2012 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
