McLEAN, Robert (Bob) Allingham - The family of Robert (Bob) McLean are deeply saddened to announce his death at home on August 23rd, 2012. Bob was born in Saint John and he was the son of late Royden McLean and Helen Roberta (Baldwin) McLean. In 1966 he married Carolyn M. Condon at Saint Joachim’s Church at Silver Falls and they have resided in Quispamsis for 38 years. In addition to his wife Carolyn, he is survived by two sons Robert A McLean Jr. & his wife Emma (Sayson) McLean and Richard A.C McLean & his wife Hazel (Tolentino) McLean. He is also survived by his brother James E. McLean & his wife Patricia (Brewing) McLean. Bob has one half-brother Ronald McLean of Nova Scotia. He is also survived by his grandchildren, the great joys of his life, Marcos (son of Robert & Emma) Ella, Egan & Elias (children of Richard & Hazel) and his two granddaughters Kayla Mae McLean and Maria Sophia McLean in the Philippines. Bob was also survived by his nieces Susan Quinn (Kevin) & their children Frances, James, Margaret, Alexandra and William; Stephanie Palmer (Mark) and their children Kate and Brett, and Sarah Jones (Derek) and their children Madison and Parker, Cousins Roberta Webster & family of BC and Halcyon Mills & daughter Sharron Tait of Saint John. Bob is also survived by one uncle, Robert McLean (Gracie) and their son Stephen and family. Robert (Bob) McLean was a well-known business man for 40 years and in partnership with his brother James E. McLean of Loyalist City Towing. He was one of the founding members of the New Brunswick Towing Association. He was a member of the Local Saint John Board of Trade. In his younger years Bob had been a Sea Cadet and served 5 years in the Royal Canadian Navy. Following his time in the navy he worked as a commercial diver laying dynamite. He then worked for the Irving Tug boats travelling the Saint John River. He worked as a longshoreman before joining the Saint John Police force in the early 60’s. After 12 years he left the police department to join his brother at Loyalist City Towing. In 2005 he was elected as an honorary member of the Saint John City Police retired members association, Local 61 CUPE. Bob loved his sailboat and the many family cruises. He frequently travelled on the Kennebecasis River and Saint John River with his Zodiac. He was also a member of RYC for 40 years and associate member of RKYC for nearly 50 years. One of his favourite activities was the Saint Joseph’s Hospital Canducky Derby. Bob was kind hearted and generous and was a great support of many organizations and charities. He was also a prankster “extraordinaire”, and a “stringer” of stories. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), visitation was August 24th & 25th. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on August 27th. Interment took place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Rothesay Yacht Club, 8 Wharf Road, Rothesay. In lieu of flowers, donations to Juvenile Diabetes Association, Stem Cell Therapy, Crohn’s and Colitis Association or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
