It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we the family announce the passing of our beautiful, vivacious, daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend, Jillian Whelan, due to a tragic motor vehicle accident, on Monday, Aug. 27, 2012.
Born in Sydney, Oct. 6, 1995, to Colleen Whelan and David Williams.
A student of Sydney Academy, Jillian’s loving and caring personality would fill any room she walked into. She was always ready to stand up for others and her strength and courage carried her through every day as she found her way through the Christian faith.
Jillian is survived by her mom and dad, Colleen Whelan and Murdock Smith; brothers, Jonathan Francis Whelan and Murdock Arthur Smith; birth father, David Williams; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth ‘Nanny’ Whelan; paternal grandparents, David and Barb Williams; also Papa (Dr. Murdock Smith) and Francis ‘Granny Frannie’ Smith; uncles, Daniel (Caressa) Whelan, Rob (Lindsay) Smith, Blair and Roger Williams; aunts, Kathleen ‘Kitty’ Whelan, Helen (Colin) MacPhail and Kath (Mike) Mulherin and many cousins.
Jillian was predeceased by her grandfather, Peter ‘Poppy’ Whelan.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral Service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at Bethel Presbyterian Church, George Street, Sydney, with Rev. Bob Lyle officiating. Interment and farewell to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
As a last act of compassion and love Jillian was a gracious organ donor, and her want to help others will live on eternally.
A special Ttanks would like to be extended from the family to the whole Ellis Clan as well as the Risks and other special friends for their endless help through this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jillian’s memory can be made to the QE II Foundation for Critical Care Organ Donations, or to the Family Services of Eastern Nova Scotia Anti-Bullying Programs.
