It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Malcolm MacNeil, 95, at the C.B. Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012.
Born in Big Beach, Cape Breton, Malcolm was the son of the late Dan Archie & Annie (MacPhee) MacNeil.
Malcolm, with his wife Frances, lived most of their married life in Mississauga, Ont., moving to Sydney River 16 years ago and recently residing at Harbourstone Enhanced Care. A very gentle person, Malc was a man of great faith. He and Fran attended Our Lady of Fatima Church for many years. Malc's interests included gardening, creating beautiful stained glass pieces and a good game of cards with Father Joe.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Frances (MacNeil) MacNeil; his sisters, Annie T. MacNeil and Rita MacNamara and his brother-in-law, Fr. Joseph Ambrose MacNeil and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Edward, Michael Dan, John Joe, Peter, Robert, Hector and Neilie.
Visitation 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 in St. Barra's Church, Christmas Island. Mass of Christian Burial will take place in St. Barra's Church at 11 a.m. Monday with Fr. Joe A. MacNeil officiating.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. Barra's Cemetery or a charity of choice.
The family wish to extend sincere thanks to the staff of Steelworkers Lane, Harbourstone Enhanced Care for the wonderful love and care given to Malcolm over the past three years.
