Inez Chapman

It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Inez F. Chapman, age 89, of Springhill, Lorneville, and Amherst, on Saturday, September 8, 2012. Inez passed away peacefully at the East Cumberland Lodge in Pugwash.
Born in Nappan, NS, she was a daughter of the late Douglas and Josephine (Purdy) Black.
Inez moved to Springhill in 1941. Together with her husband Bert, she operated the Carleton Hotel in Springhill continuing a family tradition spanning 2 generations and 61 years. They operated Chapman's Taxi and maintained a rural school bus contract service in Warren and Truro. Over the years she attended the United Church in Springhill and Lorneville.
Inez will be sadly missed by a daughter, Joanne (Tom) Corkin, Springhill; 4 sons, Tom (Bonnie), Rothesay, NB, Doug (Jean), Springhill, Jim (Vicki), Warren and Steve, Springhill, NS; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Lawrence "Bob" (Bea), Bedford, NS and Paul (Audrey), Moncton, NB; 4 sisters, Margaret Higgs, Amherst, Elsie (Fred) Forshner, Wallace Bay, NS, Elizabeth Stewart, Oxford and Esther (Keith) Jones, Fredericton, NB.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bert Chapman and brothers, Charles and Donald and a sister Ida Ward.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS where visiting hours will be held on Tuesday September 11, 2012 from 1 until 2 pm immediately followed at 2 pm by the funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Wayne McCarther. Burial will take place in the Lorneville United Church Cemetery beside her husband Bert.
