It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Donald Blaise Currie, age 75, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Daniel and Margaret (Sparling) Currie. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Blaise attended Sydney Academy and Xavier Junior College. He was an accomplished real estate broker, he began his career in the municipal assessment office, Sydney. In 1965, he joined Armor Realty Limited and was president until his retirement in 2004.
He served on many boards over the years including past president of the Cape Breton Real Estate Board as well as regional director of the Nova Scotia Real Estate Association.
Blaise had a great passion for harness racing and participated in almost all facets of the sport over the past 40+ years.
Blaise was a faithful member of Sacred Heart parish, Sydney. He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #1060. He was a lifelong friend to many, a constant companion, a proud dad and an adored grandfather. He enjoyed travelling throughout the USA and quiet times at home.
Blaise is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara; daughter, Alison (Bill) MacIsaac, Halifax and son, Colin (Stephanie), Toronto and his most treasured possessions, his three grandchildren, Colin MacIsaac, Lauren and Leana Currie.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his eldest son, Gregory and his sister, Dolores.
The family would like to extend our grateful appreciation to the VON Cape Breton Metro for their compassionate care over the past 15 months. Special thanks to Dr. Lisa Gammell, staff of Cape Breton Regional Hospital Unit 4B, and Dr. Anne Francis D’Intino and staff of the Palliative Care Unit.
Visitation will be held today (Thursday) from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney. KOC prayers to take place at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Rev. Anthony O’Connor officiating with reception to follow in St. George’s Hall, Sydney, N.S. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In memoriam donations, if so desired, may be made to the VON Cape Breton Metro or An Cala Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
