Lieu de naissance : New Waterford, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Lieu de décès : SYDNEY, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 12 septembre 2012
It is with deep regret that we, Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame, announce the peaceful passing of Sister Angelina Vallas at our CND Health Care Center, Sydney, on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012.
Sister was born in New Waterford in 1921, the daughter of the late Nicholas Vallas and Marcia Rossos.
She entered the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1942 and was professed in 1944. She served many years as teacher and principal throughout the Maritime Provinces. During those years she ministered with great joy to our First Nations People in Nyanza and Whycocomagh as teacher, principal and music director.
Upon retiring from teaching, she studied podiatry. She carried on this ministry until her recent illness and countless numbers of people walked away with “happy feet.”
Sister Angelina is survived by two sisters, Irene McPherson, New Waterford, and Sr. Frances Vallas, CND, Parkland, Cape Breton. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly.
She was predeceased by her brother, Mike (Menole) Vallas and sisters, Marie (Jim) Coleman, Cleo (Don) MacKay, Catherine (Chick) Chisholm, Pauline (Bill) Wade and Uwana Vallas.
Visitation for Sister Vallas will be held Friday, Sept. 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, with Bible Vigil at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at Holy Redeemer Church, Sydney, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
