It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dad, Edward Paruch, on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney.
Born in Sydney on March 14, 1920, he was the son of the late Joseph and Michelina (Pizalski) Paruch.
Dad lived his life at 28 Gorman St. until he moved to the Cove Guest Home several years ago. For 42 years, he worked at Canada Post, retiring in 1984 as Post Master of the Whitney Pier Post Office. An avid “Beagler” in his early years, he was key to the formation of the Cape Breton and Airway Beagle Clubs. A devoted and enthusiastic gardener, he took pride in showing off and talking endlessly about his favourite plants and flowers. He was especially fond of the gardens at his summer home at “Paradise”, Christmas Island, where he enjoyed spending as much time as he possibly could.
We would like to say a special thank you to all the staff at the Cove Guest Home, especially the staff in Creative Care who did a wonderful job of caring for our dad the past several years.
He is survived by twin sisters, Josephine Shirola, and Mary Enderle, both in the USA; sister-in-law, Stella Paruch, Sydney; six children, Raymond (Wanda), Sydney, Bernard (Kimberly), Coxheath, Lawrence (Patricia), Kentville, Kathleen (Blair) Richard, Joanne (Doug) Colson and Paul (Claire), all of Halifax; nine grandchildren, Glenn (Melissa), Nadine, Ian, Lise, Jeremy, Taylore, Devin, Kent, Craig, Colin and Sarah; three great-grandchildren, Kaelam, Peyton and Isabella.
Dad was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Margaret (MacDonald) in 1998; brothers, John, Michael (Marjorie), Stanley (Stella) and Walter.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Friday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place at St. Theresa’s Church on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at 2 p.m., with Rev. James Oliver officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or email email@example.com.
