With saddened hearts, we announce the sudden, but peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Peggy Vanderlinden at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012.
Peggy was the daughter of the late Duncan and Maggie (Cameron) Gillis, New Waterford.
Ma will be remembered for her strong faith and devotion to the rosary. She was a friend to all and had an infectious smile and a keen sense of humour. She lived her life with grace, compassion and loyalty. Caring for her large family and the love of her life, Noel, was always her top priority. She was a talented baker who delighted in sharing with her family and friends.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Noel Vanderlinden; her children, Donna, Sydney, Betty (Tom Orgar), B.C., Mary (Mike Raoul), Windsor, N.S., Patricia (Blair Tobin) Ontario, Jim (Joan) Dominion, Lois (Jaime Martell), Sydney, John (Sheri Yantha), Ontario, Joan (Ken Brake), B.C., and Karen, Dominion; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Duncan (Fran), Ontario, Alex (Prudence), Halifax, James (Pearl), New Waterford, Lois (Donald O’Quinn), Maine, Danny, New Waterford; numerous nieces and nephews, whom she adored.
Besides her parents, Peggy was predeceased by her 11-month old son, Noel Oscar, grandson, Thomas Noel Orgar, B.C., brothers, John D., Martin, Bernie, Angus, Hugh and four brothers in infancy.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held Thursday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. in St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion. The Rev. Daniel Boudreau will be officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. All are welcome to the church hall for a reception.
Memorial donations may be made to the N.S. Alzheimer Society, St. Eugene’s Food Bank or a charity of one’s choice.
