HALVORSON – Laura Viola of Cabri, SK passed away on September 14, 2012 at the Western Senior Citizens Home, Leader, SK. She was born on April 14, 1924 to Lottie and Archie Baldwin of the Waldensian Valley District west of Cabri, SK. She had 3 sisters and 5 brothers. She married Helmer Halvorson on December 18, 1947 and together they farmed and raised their two sons Keith and Dennis. Vi was predeceased by her husband Helmer in 2003, 3 sisters and brothers-in-law Mabel (Wilf) Halvorson, Thelma (Alfred) Halvorson, Edna (Cecil) Shaw, and four brothers and one sister-in-law Melvin Baldwin, Lloyd Baldwin, Wallace Baldwin and Cassie (Grace) Baldwin. She is survived by her two sons Keith and Dennis Halvorson, one brother Harold and Emily Baldwin, sisters-in-law Alice Baldwin of Cabri, SK, Hazel Baldwin of Calgary, Hazel Yeast of Medicine Hat and Jean Halvorson of Swift Current and many nieces, nephews and their families. Vi will be lovingly remembered for her fun loving nature and great hospitality. She loved to bake and cook and had a love for flowers. She especially loved a good game of cards and if you came for a visit you usually didn’t leave without one. A celebration of life was held at the Cabri United Church Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with LPM Marie Barr. The ushers were Scott Shaw & Jay Shaw and pallbearers were: Hugh Greer, Sterling Shaw, Vernon Baldwin, Wayne Shaw, Larry Bang and Ron Hawkins. A eulogy was given by Corrine Cann and the candle lighter was Anita Johnson. Special music was by Lexie Culham and Fern Bang. Donations may be made to the Cabri Hospital Auxiliary or to the charity of your choice in memory of Vi. Arrangements were in care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home.
