REMPEL: It is with great sadness that the family of George Rempel, age 101, announce his passing on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at the Herbert & District Integrated Health Facility. Dad was born in Russia on May 6, 1911, to Diedrich & Gertrude Rempel. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1926, landing in Herbert, SK. He went to night school to learn English. He married Margaret Heinrichs on September 30, 1934, at Neville, SK in the Pella Church. He was baptized on August 21, 1938. He loved music and occasionally played the mandolin in church. He also traveled to Moose Jaw to play on the radio, with his brother, Dick, and two other musicians. His farming career started in Braddock area and his passion for farming took them to many places, settling in Webb district and retiring to Swift Current. They loved to travel and made many trips into British Columbia, Arizona and California. He had as much fun at Disney Land as his grandchildren did. Dad was always cheerful and had a positive outlook and was willing to help anyone in need. One of his greatest pleasures was taking his family and friends out for dinner or just for a friendly coffee. George was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret, in 1997; his second wife, Louise (Busse), in 2004; his son, Marvin Rempel, in 2009; his granddaughter, Judy, in 2012; his siblings, David, Helen, Annie, Gertrude, Dick and Jake. He is survived by his children, Dorothy (Walt) Bragg, Linda (Wayne) Lister, Dave (Carol) Rempel; his daughter-in-law, Jeanette Rempel; his step-children, Ed (Myrna), Carol (Eldon), Brian (Sandra), Marilyn (Wayne); his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Elizabeth; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was always cheerful and willing to help. One of his greatest pleasures was taking his family and friends to dinner or just a friendly coffee. The family would like to thank the Herbert & District Integrated Health Facility for the kindness and love shown to our dad. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 1:00 pm from the Community Baptist Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Joell Haugan officiating.
