
Lorne "Arch" MacAulay Gillis

Lorne died peacefully on September 28, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Lorne was the son of the late Wilfred and Kay (MacAulay) Gillis of Whitney Pier. Although he moved from the Pier several years ago, Lorne was always proud to be a “Pier Boy”. After graduating from Eastern Tech, Lorne worked for the Workers’ Compensation Board for over 35 years, both in Halifax and Sydney. There he formed many lifelong friendships.
Lorne is survived by his wife of 37 years, Wanda; son David (Meagan), Nashville; daughter Lorna, Halifax. He is also survived by his brothers David (Eva) and Wilfred (Bev), Edmonton, and Kenneth (Grace), Charlottetown. Also left to mourn are his sister-in-law, Cherie (Coxheath); dear friends, Karen and Henry; several nieces and nephews; and his best little buddy, Mitchell MacLean, who affectionately called him “Bad Kitty”. Besides his parents, Lorne was predeceased by brothers Gordon and Donald.
In keeping with Lorne’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. The funeral, under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel, will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 2, at Trinity United Church with personal friend, Rev. Jackie MacDonald officiating.
