Dr. Lawrence Buffett

Dr. Lawrence Buffett

Lieu de naissance : Glace Bay, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada

Lieu de décès : Canada

Friends and family of Lawrence have lost a loving, kind, and special person. He was a well respected and compassionate psychiatrist, who worked tirelessly to provide the best of care to his clients. His students, residents and interns have lost a supportive teacher and mentor. Patients, colleagues, and staff have lost a caring and accepting individual.
Lawrence (Larry, to many) was born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton and graduated from Morrision High School. He obtained his MD at Dalhousie University and completed his psychiatric residency in 1965 and worked at the Nova Scotia Hospital until 1969. He then moved to Montreal to practice psychiatry at the Douglas Hospital/McGill University for eight years before returning to his beloved Nova Scotia to continue his career at the Nova Scotia Hospital. He loved his work, his colleagues and his patients. He cherished his home and garden. Above all, he valued family and friendship and was always ready to lend a hand or an ear. He enjoyed good food and good wine and good music. His trips to the Metropolitan Opera in New York were highlights of his cultural life and he enjoyed many trips abroad with his friend, Barbara. In short, he lived a good life, giving to his community through his profession and enjoying some of life's greatest pleasures. He was also a philanthropist contributing generously to a wide variety of causes.
Lawrence was the son of the late Dr. Llewellyn and Clara Buffett of Glace Bay. He was the brother of Carolyn and Doug (Elizabeth Morris), the uncle of Dr. Susan (Rob) Jerrott, and Andrew (Jennifer Skidd) Buffett, great uncle of Emma and Adam Jerrott and Cameron and Gabrielle Buffett, Godfather to Rhonda, Alissa, Matthew, Cory, Emily, Sarah and Lukas and dear and great friend to Barbara Morris, Bob Haley, Dr. Barry Bultz and Arthur Jones.
Special thanks to the very dedicated Dr. Collin Davey, Bob Haley, Diane Hickey and Kelly Herd. You have cared and comforted Lawrence and supported us all. Our family could not have gotten through this without each of you.
A celebration of Lawrence's life will be held at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 beginning at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dartmouth General Hospital Healing Garden which gave Lawrence such pleasure during his final months of life. These can be sent to the DGH Foundation, specifying they are intended for the Healing Garden. Lawrence also requested donations go to Opera Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.
