Lieu de naissance : Glace Bay, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de naissance : 27 mars 1949
Lieu de décès : Australie
Date de décès : 28 septembre 2012
It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Charles William MacVicar, 63, on Sept. 28, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Auburn, Australia, with his loving wife by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, Charles was the only son of the late Charlie and Beatrice (Buchanan) MacVicar of Donkin.
Charles left home after high school looking for work and adventure in Canada’s North. After several years of working with the Hudson’s Bay Company in northern Manitoba, he wanted to broaden his horizons so he ventured to Australia in search of employment and adventure. He travelled throughout Australia, settling in places like Sydney, Hobart, Tasmania, and most recently in Campsie, a suburb of Sydney. He enjoyed his work with a surveying firm there which afforded him many opportunities for encounters with Australia’s wildlife, which he generously shared in his pictures via the Internet.
Charles loved Australia so much, he made it his home and continued to live there for 43 years. His family and friends will definitely miss his chats and adventurous stories.
Charles is survived by his wife, Flora; her children, Janice and Kelvin; and Flora’s parents in Hong Kong. Also surviving are his aunts, Muriel McLellan and Edie MacVicar, both of Donkin; as well as many cousins who will miss him greatly.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Charles MacVicar will be held on Oct. 5, 2012, at the West Chapel of Northern Suburbs Crematorium, Delhi Road, North Ryde, Australia, commencing at 3:45 p.m.
