PERRY (Freeman) Lynne, 65, Sandy Point/Hammonds Plains
It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the sudden passing at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, of our Mum, Lynne, on Sunday, September 30, 2012, on what would have been our parents’ 45th wedding anniversary. She is now reunited with her one true love, Wayne. Lynne was born on March 19, 1947, in Sandy Point, and was the eldest child of the late Laurence (Laurie) and Helen (Harding) Freeman of Pleasant Point, Shelburne County. For fifteen years, Lynne was a stay-at-home mum to her three children and an active volunteer in her community. She worked tirelessly for the local Drug Dependency Board, the Canadian Cancer Society, local school parent support groups, Laubach Literacy, South Shore Multicultural Association, the Boy Scouts and was a Sunday school teacher. Just two weeks ago she joined the First Baptist Church Hammonds Plains after leaving her beloved First Ragged Islands Baptist Church where she had worshipped over the years. Lynne was an avid birder and eternal naturalist. She was very interested in protecting habitat for native bird species and loved travelling around the globe with her family to add new birds to her life list. She was an excellent cook who cherished traditional Nova Scotian baking and was the keeper of family recipes handed down over generations. Lynne was a force to be reckoned with in baking competitions at the local exhibition in Shelburne and won an Atlantic provinces cooking contest for her rhubarb relish. Lynne will forever be remembered as the dedicated and unstoppable Executive Director of the South Shore Tourism Association. Tourism was Lynne’s lifelong passion – she was an avid traveler, constant tour guide, mentor, speaker, promoter, ambassador, and signer of guest books extraordinaire. She was awarded the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia’s Crystal Tourism Award of Excellence. Lynne was passionate about lighthouses as the emblem of tourism culture in Nova Scotia and was firmly committed to saving them for future generations to enjoy. She led the creation of the Lights Along the Shore Festival to help promote lighthouses as an integral part of Nova Scotia’s seafaring culture and way of life. As many of her tourism friends know, Lynne could often be found holding court at her favourite retreat at White Point Beach Resort and thought of all of the staff there as her second family. She truly believed that every day of her life was a blessing and we believe that the countless people whose lives she touched were blessed by her. Lynne Marie was an amazing mother, grandma, sister, aunt, friend and mentor. She was truly larger than life and her legacy will live on through her family, friends and colleagues. She is survived by daughters, Fawne (Garvin) Atkinson, Stoney Island; Sgt. Darla (HRP), Hammonds Plains; son, Darren (Jillian), Port LaTour; sister, Mona (Brian) Decker, Sable River; brothers, Wayne (Robin), Hammonds Plains; Barry (Avery Pirri), Three Fathom Harbour; beloved grandchildren, Logan and Lauren Atkinson and Sophie Marie Perry; her aunts, Ruth Huskilson, Jordan Branch; Melda Mitchell, Kentville; Catherine Freeman, Kingston, several special nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Lynne was predeceased by her husband, James Wayne Perry (October 4, 1943 - February 13, 2006). Funeral service was held on Friday, October 5 at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Maurice Hatfield from Deer Island, N.B. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Shelburne. Donations may be made to the Wayne & Lynne Perry Scholarship Fund, the Sandy Point Lighthouse Community Centre or the church of your choice. Email condolences to hmhuskilson@ns.aliantzinc.ca
