Surrounded by her family, Ethel Downey of Branch, St. Mary’s Bay. Passed gracefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on October 8, 2012. After a lifetime of devotion, she is now reunited in spirit with her loving husband James (Junie) Downey. She leaves behind with heavy hearts and fond memories, along with enduring lessons in kindness and humanity, her four children and their spouses: Ricky (Fe Tarrangco); Marilyn (Gordon Nettleton); Yvonne (Jerome Power), and Darryl (Audrey). Her grandchildren, the pride and joy of her last 16 years, will remember the moments she made special and the unique gifts she found in each of them: Mary Ann (Tarrancgo) MacAlalad; Daniel and Katie Power; Travis and Grace Downey, and Andrew and Connor Nettleton. She will be sadly missed by her large extended family, including the nieces and nephews she held dear, as well as a multitude of loyal friends, especially those who sat with her in companionship during her final days - her sister Margaret Ann Short and friends, Pauline Power, Bernadine Brennan and Pat Lescombe. As was her wish, visitation will take place at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Wednesday, October 10th from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Thursday, October 11th from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Rosary Church, Branch on Saturday, October 13th at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment to follow at R.C. Cemetery, Branch. Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations may be made in her memory to the Boys and Girls Club of St. John’s, Mundy Pond Road.
