MARTIN, EDITH - Edith Bernice Martin, 97, of Elgin, passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Friday, October 12, 2012. Born at Collier Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Mary (nee Bannister) Collier. Edith was a member of the First Elgin Baptist Church. She was a Dominion Life Member of the Women’s Missionary Society, and taught Sunday School for over 20 years. She enjoyed making quilts and homemaking. She was thankful that her desire was granted to stay home until the end. Edith was the last surviving member of her family. She is survived by her daughters: Phyllis Linkletter of Elgin, and Shirley Hall (Ralph) of Norton; her sons: Laurence Martin and Dean Martin (Carol), all of Elgin, and Edward Martin (Carole) and Kenneth Martin (Myrna), all of Petitcodiac; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; as well as by many extended family members. Besides her parents, Edith was predeceased by her husband, Cyril Martin; infant son, Ronald Martin; son-in-law, Parker Linkletter; daughter-in-law, Shirley Martin; great-grandson, Ryan Babcock; two brothers, and six sisters.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Armstrong’s Funeral Home, 33 Russell Street, Petitcodiac, from where visitation will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm; the funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am with Pastor David Hawkesworth presiding, at the First Elgin Baptist Church. Interment will be held in the New Elgin Cemetery. Donations to First Elgin Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
