WHITESIDE, JOAN ELIZABETH, 1946 - 2012. Joan (nee Bodrug) Whiteside passed away peacefully on October 19, 2012 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current. She is survived by her husband Brian, brothers Don (Marian) and Bob (Cheryle) Bodrug of Ontario and her sister Marian (Bob) Breckon of Edmonton as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Don and Dorothy Bodrug of Saskatoon. Joan was educated in Saskatoon attending Aden Bowman Collegiate, City Hospital Nursing Program and the University of Saskatchewan. She moved to Swift Current in 1969 and in 1970 married Brian Whiteside. Joan enjoyed a career as a registered nurse, a public health nurse and manager of community health services. One of her proudest moments was in receiving her Masters of Education in Adult Education. Joan was active in many community affairs and was a very avid reader and lifelong learner. She had a passion for dolls and collected them as a hobby. She loved to travel and spent 6 years as a tour host leading people to many parts of North America. Joan loved to swim, camp and spend time with her family and many friends. She will be greatly missed. Friends and associates are invited to a gathering in Joan’s honour on Friday, November 9th at the Elmwood Golf and Country Club in Swift Current from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Wear bright colours! In keeping with Joan’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Donations in Joan’s memory may be made to the Cypress Health Region for the development of a palliative care unit in the announced long term care facility in Swift Current.
