Vernon Hynes
The death of Vernon B. Hynes, age 91, of Amherst, occurred at the Highcrest Nursing Home, Springhill on Wednesday, October 24, 2012.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Felix and Mary (Barrett) Hynes.
Vernon was a member of the Royal Canadian Army serving overseas with the Service Corp during WWII. Moving to British Columbia he worked with a Pulp and Paper Mill in Prince Rupert BC. Retiring to Chiliwack he returned to the Maritimes in 1993.
Vernon will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Edith Coates; son, Phillip (Sharon) of Chiliwack, BC, step-daughters, Jamie (Dan) Soufflet and Marsha (Jeff) Stiles; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Vernon was predeceased by his first wife Ivy and 2 sons, Terry and Jack, a granddaughter Gail and a sister Shirley.
Vernon's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home (667-8777), Church Street, Amherst from where the funeral service will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 2 pm. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the funeral home Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Burial will be in the Amherst Cemetery.
