RABUT, AURORE MARIE-LOUISE ALPHONSINE

March 12, 1917 - October 23, 2012

God called his angel home on the 23rd of October at 11:15 a.m. at the Hamlets in Penticton. He needed another beautiful voice in his choir. She will be loving remembered and sadly missed by her children, Simone Kushneryk (John) Prince Albert, Sask, Elaine Sawka (Melvin) Kamloops, Rena Van Dale (Gerald) Naramata; grandchildren, Dean (Jackie)Geri- Lynn (Olivier), Humber, Tyler (Diana-Lynn) Kushneryk , Lauri, Kerry (Margo), Kim (Adele) Sawka, Natalie (Brian), Mitchell (Sharon), Monika (Robert) and Martin Van Dale; 18 great grand grandchildren, 1 Great great grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews, many family and friends. She was predeceased by husband, Fernand; son, Renald; parents Marie-Anna Lussier and Octavien Dandeneault; dear friend, Jack Sheppard and brothers, Henri, Archie and Rene Dandeneault.

Born in Kamsack, Sask March 12, 1917, she lived in North Battleford Sask, McLean Sask, and Domremy Sask where she met her husband Fernand Rabut. They married on Nov. 6, 1934 and had two girls, Simone in 1935 and Elaine in 1936. In 1938 Fernand took a position with Reliance Grain Elevator in Spiritwood, which later became the Pioneer Grain Elevator. They had two more children, Rena in 1940 and Renald in 1946. While in Spiritwood, Aurore, who was a very good seamstress, did a lot of sewing and alteration for the public. She curled and loved to sing and belonged to the CWL at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The family moved back to Domremy in 1952, where Fernand took a position with Pioneer Grain Elevator. In 1963, Fernand retired and they moved to Kamloops where Aurore went to work at the Tranquille Training Centre until her own retirement. She then was able to enjoy camping and visiting her daughters' families becoming the pillar of the family attending the weddings, baptisms, Christmas concerts and school functions of her grandchildren. She was very involved with them and loved them dearly.She also loved to visit daughter Simone, family and friends in Sask. In 2000 Aurore moved to Penticton at the age of 83 making her home on Rigsby Street. She enjoyed Penticton and spent a lot of time in Naramata visiting daughter Rena and family and spending her Christmases in Golden with daughter Elaine and family. In 1992 she lost the love of her life, her son, Renald Rabut on Feb. 29th. He was known at the time as a great choreographer, having won the Canadian Clifford Lee Award in 1982 and was at one time director of the Pacific Ballet in Vancouver. He later moved to Montreal and was director and choreographer of many companies there. He had started his ballet career when he was 17 and was 46 when he passed. Mom missed him terribly and she is now happily reunited with him. She loved baking apple pies and was known for great coffee and pies by friends who dropped in. She had a beautiful voice and honoured us with “Danny Boy” at her 90th birthday; her voice was with her until the end. She was in great health until 2007, when she suffered a stroke and was unable to stay in her apartment any longer. She was very disappointed to move out. She was one of the first to move in to the Hamlets where she spent the remainder of her life. She loved it at the Hamlets and received quality care. Her great sense of humour had everyone laughing. She will be greatly missed by the staff and her friends there. She loved advising the grandchildren on how to live a good life. They took her advice and learned from her. Till we meet again Mom. A Prayer Service will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the Hamlets (103 Duncan Ave. W., Penticton) at 11:00 a.m. with Father Rex Velmonte officiating.
