David was predeceased by his father, Edward ‘Ted’, mother, Agnes (nee Robertson) and a brother in infancy.
David was born in North Sydney and resided in Florence with his family during his young life. David pursued a career in teaching after graduating from Sydney Mines High School. He was principal of Mill Creek School. Early in his teaching career he realized that teaching was not his niche. He returned to university to pursue a career in justice and attended university in New Brunswick and Manitoba graduating with a law degree. David was a member of the bar in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia. David practiced law in Manitoba for many years and in 1989 returned to Cape Breton to live. As he told a dear friend, Cape Breton is a beautiful place to live and it is the place to be. David became reacquainted with old friends and made numerous new friends. While in Cape Breton, David practiced law in both the public and private sector until he retired due to his illness.
The family is truly grateful for the many calls and visits from relatives and friends that David received while he was ill, and the support provided to him by them. He was always so happy to hear from them and to spend time with them.
The family is also truly grateful to the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and the palliative care doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers and the nurses on 4 West of the Northside General Hospital. Each and every one of you were very special to him and also to J.M. Jobes Funeral Home for their thoughtfulness and professionalism.
As per David’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation and a private memorial will be held at a later date.
Donations in David’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, palliative care, Wilson United Church, Florence or a charity of choice.
