Melvin Ripley

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Melvin James Ripley age 81 of Amherst announce his passing on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS.
Born in Truemanville, NS he was a son of the late Allison and Weselean (Goodwin) Ripley.
In his younger years, Melvin worked for Fletcher Coates Dairy in Amherst and later for Guy Smith in East Amherst, the Department of Highways, Enamel Heating in Amherst and retired from Gray and Lusby Farm Equipment in 1996.
He was a former volunteer member of the Truemanville Fire Department and a member of the Amherst Wesleyan Church.
Melvin will be sadly missed by his wife Rose (Winters) of 60 years, daughters Sheila Ripley (Gerry) and Evelyn (Danny) Fenton both of Sussex, NB and Laura (Eldon) Paugh of Amherst, sons Henry (Kim) of Trenton, ON, Tom (Kim) of Pointe de Bute, NB, Jim, Roy (Debbie), Paul (Robyn), Melbourne (Teralisa) and Lee (Sue) all of Amherst, one extended son Jay (Trish) of Hampton, NB, 31 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by sisters Mary Mack, Sarah Arsenault (Fred) and Marjorie Brown all of Truemanville, Flora Cassie (Wilfred) Janie Arsenault (Pat) and Helena Paugh (David) all of Amherst, Barbara Hope (Bruce) of Georgetown, ON, brothers Melbourne of Warren, Albion (Joy) and Allison both of Truemanville, Robert (Doris) of Schomberg, ON, William (Bernice) of Keswick Ridge, NB, Coates of Middleboro, NS and Joseph of North York, ON.
Besides his parents, Melvin was predeceased by daughter Linda Ripley and infant daughter Phyllis, three grandchildren Crystal, Jamie and Cody and one sister Elda Leadbetter.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst. (902-667-9906)
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Amherst Wesleyan Church, 50 Cornwall Ave. with Rev. Raymond Fancy officiating.
Interment will take place in the Truemanville Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Melvin’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association or the charity of your choice.
