Malcolm "Mac" MacConnell

MacCONNELL, MALCOLM "MAC" - Malcolm Stott "Mac" MacConnell, 89, passed away peacefully on November 13th, 2012, at his home in Dartmouth surrounded by his loving family. Born in Plaster Rock, NB on October 10th, 1923. Son of George and Sadie (Burgoyne) MacConnell. He attended Plaster Rock High School. He joined the RCAF in 1941 and went overseas in 1943 where he flew two tours of Operations as a pilot with RAF Bomber Command. The second tour with the elite Pathfinder Force. At wars end he returned to Fredericton NB where he graduated as a Civil Engineer from UNB in 1950. He re-entered the RCAF in the Construction Engineering Branch from which he retired in 1972 with the rank of Squadron Leader. He continued to serve at Maritime Command Headquarters in various Construction Engineering Positions until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, N.S. Centennial Branch 160 Royal Canadian Legion and The Aircrew Association, N.S. Branch. He was an active member of Woodlawn United Church and served as Elder for a period of 17 years. He also served 5 years on Halifax Presbytery. He enjoyed all outdoor life, especially hunting,fishing and gardening. Mac was a family man, predeceased by his love and partner of 59 years Geneva (Sisson). He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth (Stout), his sons Leigh (Lavern), Robert (Debbie), and daughter Barbara Dyment (Leigh), five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Margaret Kerns (James), brothers Merritt, and Earlyn (Bud). Also will be sadly missed by his step children, Lynne Transue and family, Lee Strunk and family, Lori Kulp and family, Charles Strunk and family.
Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St, Dartmouth, Visitation Friday November 16, 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. Funeral services Saturday November 17, at 11 am Woodlawn United Church, 54 Woodlawn Road, Dartmouth, Reverend Phillip Kennedy officiating. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, 767 Main St, Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Charity of your choice.
