Janet Fultz

FULTZ, JANET, BSc, MD, FRCSC - Janet Elaine Fultz was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to John Gerald and Florence (Ellis) Fultz. She completed a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Guelph, and then turned to the field of medicine, graduating from Queen's University with her medical degree in 1978. She decided to pursue a speciality in plastic and reconstructive surgery. She worked in Toronto and Winnipeg, and studied in Scotland, Honolulu, and finally in Paris, where she completed training in February 1985. Her studies abroad may have sparked the love of travel she carried all her life. In 1985 she established her practice in Moncton. She worked at both The Moncton Hospital and the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont University Hospital. She was a well-respected physician with high standards and sincere compassion for her patients and their outcomes. She also had a dry wit and a great sense of humour, as neighbours and friends, especially those in her neighbourhood book club, can attest. But her true love was enjoying the outdoors, and traveling to new places. She hiked and backpacked in places as remote as Nepal and New Zealand. She biked in Alaska and Cuba. She snorkeled in Belize and Palau. She traveled the world and loved every minute - it was a welcome break from a demanding career. But she especially loved hiking the trails of New Brunswick, where Fundy Park was one of her special places. Janet loved nature and animals - she often walked dogs for the SPCA - she loved to walk the big dogs that others were wary of. She adopted 2 kittens from Cat Rescue Maritimes - the wood pile rescues provided her with much love in return. Sadly, Janet was diagnosed with inoperable metastatic bile duct cancer in September 2011. After a very courageous battle, she passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012. Janet was predeceased by her mother and father, by an infant brother, and by older brother, Brian Fultz. She is survived by older sister, Christine Fultz and niece Lisa and nephew Jeff in Florida, and by her younger sister Laura Fultz and brother-in-law, Wade Langille of Bridgewater, NS.
A service to honour Janet's life will be held at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 17, 2012, with Rev. Chris VanBuskirk officiating. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service. Family flowers only by request. Memorial donations would be welcome to Nature Trust New Brunswick, Nature Conservatory Canada, or charity of choice. Online condolences at www.fergusonknowlesfh.com
