Nick Waslenchuk passed away, peacefully in his sleep, after 88 years of a life filled with adventure.
Born in Roxton, SK, at 19 years old Nick was an RCAF Officer who served his country with Bomber Command flying over Germany and occupied Europe. He survived 30 night bombing missions, 3 train wrecks with CN Rail, a car incident resulting in a broken neck and being struck by lightning. He considered himself a lucky man.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Minnie Ellen (Mickey) in 2008. Dad is survived by his loving family, sons Ross (Brenda) Kamloops and Dennis (Lorraine) New London, Conn. Also left to cherish his memory are grandson Brent of Kamloops, granddaughters Tracy Cheshire (Dan) and Nikki Watt of Langley, B.C., sister Vicki Garrett of Penticton, B.C., brother Bill of Victoria, B.C., numerous relatives and friends across Canada.
Nick left Alberta for BC in 1958 to purchase the Monte Creek Chevron, and made many good friends over the years. He loved the outdoors, splitting wood and spending many hours camping & fishing on his favorite lakes. He enjoyed golf and going on adventures. He was very interested in learning about the world around him, and was always asking questions. He read newspapers faithfully, often passing along information that he had come across on little notes to family & friends. Nick was a man of honor and dedicated to community service. He spent many years with the Lions Club earning their highest awards, Air Force Association, Royal Canadian Legion, WarBirds and the Elks Lodge.
At Dad's request, there will be a Celebration of Life in the spring.
Special thanks to Dr. R. Paul Farrell, Dr. Avanessian & staff at RIH and Ponderosa Lodge. A heartfelt thanks to all those friends who spent time with Dad, he loved seeing each and every one of you.
