With great sadness we announce the passing of Eileen Isabell O’Connor, on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late John and Isabell (Brophy) Walsh.
Raised in New Waterford, Eileen excelled in school and held many a lead role in school plays. Singing and acting were her passions. She prided herself on her quick mental math and proper grammar. After school, she worked at the Co-op and was quickly moved into office work. During the Second World War she met her life companion Frank and together they created their piece of heaven, (Frankaleen Beach), that they owned and operated for 40 plus years.
Eileen has spent the last years of her life in the caring hands of the staff at the Northside Guest Home.
She is survived by her children, Elaine Finn, Patricia O’Connor, Frank (Gina), all of Toronto, Michael, Trois-Rivieres, Cheryl (Barry) MacDonald, Ingonish, Tammy (Brian) Eveleigh, Sydney Mines, Mary Lou O’Connor, Toronto; also by her 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Eileen was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Margaret MacInnis, Molly Mercer, Sr. Marion Delores Walsh, brother, Gus Walsh, brother-in-law, Cosmos O’Connor, sisters-in-law, Margaret Murphy, Mary O’Connor in infancy, mother and father-in-law, Daniel and Sarah O’Connor, husband, Frank and a daughter, Mary Lynna in infancy.
Visitation for Eileen will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Rev. Jake Andrea officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Northside Guest Home, Canadian Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.
