Sidney Pearson Webb

Sidney Pearson Webb

WEBB, SIDNEY PEARSON, - 83 of Latties Brook / Truro, passed into the loving arms of his saviour Monday, November 19, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Born May 12, 1929 to the late Willard and Melissa (n. McCulloch) Webb in North Noel Road, Sidney lived there until 1970 when he moved to Latties Brook where he would marry Mabel (n. Grandy) and raise a family before moving to Truro in 2001. As a young man Sidney travelled to Yellowknife to try his hand at mining but soon returned to the family home where he would work at a variety of forestry related jobs. He would eventually work in the mills at Elmsdale Lumber, Ledwidge Lumber, and finally Russell White Lumber Ltd as a lumber grader. Sid was a gentle soul who took on the challenge of a step-family when he married Mabel in 1971; a task which gained him the admiration and undying love of his 6 step-children. Sidney really had 2 passions in later years: his faith, and his grandchildren. Sidney was unwavering in his belief in The Truth and an inspirational example as he followed the straight and narrow path to his salvation. Grandchildren were the sun in Grampie Webb’s sky and visitors to his home were regaled with amusing stories, shown picture after picture, and usually offered a peppermint, his candy of choice. You could see this loving man swell with pride when given the opportunity to talk about any one of the grandchildren. Sidney is survived by his wife of nearly 41 years Mabel, children Darrell Corkum (Kathy and son Charlie), Fall River; Yvonne Rushton (Reg and children Kim, Matthew, David, William, Valerie, and Mark), Lantz; Allan Corkum (deceased)(Marie and children Rodney, Sabrina and Samantha), Surrey, BC; Nancy MacQueen (Charlie and children Melissa, Teddy, Stacey-Lynn, and Brandi) Surrey, BC; Wayne Corkum (Star and children Michael, Justin, Aaron, Brittany and Spencer), Truro; Irene Schramm (Brent and children Alyssa and Shane), Regina, SK; Bentley Webb, Nakina, Ont., and Andrew Webb (Lisa Fudge and children Alecia, Karleigh and Sheridan) as well as a very special “daughter” Angela Burton (Mike Gaudet and son Ryan). There are also 27 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Willard and Melissa, brothers Leroy, Gordon and Nelson, and sister Ruby. Sidney was survived as well, by a multitude of nieces and nephews who have a special place in their hearts and a special tone in their voices for Uncle Sid. Visitation will be Thursday, November 22, 2012 from 5-9pm at Ettinger’s Funeral Home, Shubenacadie where funeral services will be held Friday, November 23, 2012 at 1pm; Eric Lochart and Eric Morton officiating. Burial will follow at St John’s Anglican Cemetery, Latties Brook. Following the burial the family will be available for a reception at the Four Points Community Center, Latties Brook.
