Chris Bourque

Chris Bourque
1974 – 2012
It is with great sadness that the family of Chris Bourque of Saskatoon announces his death on November 24, 2012. Chris was deeply loved by his wife Gwen, daughters Victoria and Mackenzie, parents Garry and Brenda, Brother Aaron (Nadine), his Uncle Kenny and all his relations from the Bourque and Albers families. Father in law Gary Crawford, mother in law Kathy Catherwood, sister in laws Abby Crawford, and Kim Williams (Romus) and all other family and friends.
Chris was a man of many accomplishments, with a diverse skill set, working as a machinist, high school teacher, and Federal Corrections Officer. All the while Chris was able to serve his country through a 20 year career in Canadian Forces with the North Saskatchewan Regiment achieving the rank of Sergeant. Chris was a veteran of operations in Canada, the former Yugoslavia, and Afghanistan.
Chris’ greatest joy came from the accomplishments of his daughters, Victoria and Mackenzie, in both sports and academics. Chris enjoyed the travels that he, Gwen and the girls took whether around the world or here at home in Saskatchewan. He had a true love for the outdoors and the land; working on the Albers’ family homestead, his farm, spending time at the cabin at Candle Lake, hunting and fishing.
At heart Chris was a man dedicated to the service of others; whether as a volunteer fire fighter, supportive neighbour, or friend who was always willing to lend a hand with his natural gift for carpentry. Many friends and family have been the beneficiaries of Chris’s skills whether it was in the form of a new deck, renovations to their home or completion of general chores around their house. With his sense of humour, one of his carpentry principles was “sometimes you have to use a finishing hammer (sledge hammer) to get the job done.” Chris gave of his time and significant talents willingly, asking nothing in return.
Chris was a fierce competitor whether on the ice or leading his men. When times were tough Chris used his unique sense of humour to ease the tension. He touched many people in the circles of his life, those who knew and loved him as well as strangers whom he encountered in his travels and service. With his generous nature and mile wide smile Chris impacted us all. By those who knew him best Chris is described as a mentor, consummate professional, true friend, man of his word, congenial host of many BBQs, proud Canadian and most importantly loving son, father and husband.
