It is with profound sadness that the family of Bonny Jean Delaney of Warren announce her passing on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Sackville, NB she was a daughter of Jean Louise (Hicks) “Dixon” Estabrooks of Amherst and the late Charles William Edward Dixon.
Bonny loved teaching and had a very rewarding career. She was employed with Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority in Amherst and Halifax for over 32 years and with Chignecto Central Regional School Board as an Autism Consultant for 2 years after retiring from Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority.
Bonny successfully completed her teaching certificate at Teacher’s College; B.A. and B.Ed at Mount Allison University and M.Ed., at University of Moncton. She also attended Clarke School for the Deal, Northampton, Mass., receiving her Teacher of the Deaf Certification. Bonny taught graduate level courses at Mount Saint Vincent University and held professional memberships with Canadian Association of Educators of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Nova Scotia Teacher’s Union.
Bonny supported many students and teachers-in-training over several years and was a strong, encouraging voice advocating the importance of learning. Bonny shared her love of education and reading with her coworkers, friends and family members.
Bonny will be sadly missed by her husband Neil of 47 years, daughters Vonda (Darrell) Roddick of Seoul, South Korea and Alisa Delaney (David Duguay) of Amherst, grandchildren Tristan, Gregory, Allesondra and C.J.
She is also survived by sisters Doris (Eugene) Smith and Robin Hurley both of Amherst and Susan of Vancouver, BC and brother Charles Dixon.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, NS. (902-667-9906)
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 2 p.m. in Campbell’s Chapel with Mrs. Shelley Trenholm officiating.
Interment will take place in the Amherst Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Bonny’s memory may be made to the Cumberland Shrine Club for the Children’s Travel Fund to the Shriner’s Hospital in Montreal.
