First Christmas, first New Year,
first Easter without you,
First birthday - we missed you -
but thought much about you,
First Mother’s Day, first holiday,
first summer without you,
The year of firsts moved on,
and all of us missed you.

You have passed on from this
world that we live in,
Although we are thankful for the
time we were given,
For the love that we shared -
for the days that we spent,
Through this whole year of firsts,
as each milestone went.

Quite simply, your passing
became a true thing,
So we can think of you now
for the comfort it brings,
Your presence remains,
although you’ve been gone,
For a full year of firsts...
seems awfully long.
