Minnie Wright

Date de naissance : 21 septembre 1921

Date de décès : 5 mai 2008

1921-2008 Minnie Isabel (Hunt) passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Monday, May 5, 2008. Only daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Conrad) Hunt, Minnie (nee Hunt) was born in Halifax on September 21, 1921. Soon after Minnie’s birth, mother and daughter moved to Boston, Mass., where Margaret, a classically trained singer, pursued a career in music. There they lived for 11 years until Margaret died an untimely death at the age of 42. Minnie went to Lunenburg, N.S., to live with her cousins, Mary (Gillespie) and Gretchen (Finley), and aunt and uncle, Minnie and Archie Powers. She attended the Lunenburg Academy and completed her high school education at Mount Saint Vincent Academy in Halifax. Having decided on nursing as a profession, Minnie took pre-nursing at Acadia University and completed her degree at the Saint John Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. At the Saint John Hospital she met her future husband, Dr. John Sidney Wright. They married in 1944. In 1951, Sid and Minnie moved to Moncton where they raised their family and continued to live to the present day. Minnie belonged to the IODE, the Moncton Gyrette Club, and the Moncton Curlers’ Association. She was a member of the Unitarian Church. During her active years, Minnie had many interests and hobbies: listening to classical music, reading, doing crossword puzzles, nurturing indoor violets, maintaining a rock garden, dancing, socializing, curling, swimming and traveling. Minnie had a remarkable talent for doing fine detailed work with her hands, as was evident in her needlepoint, knitting, sewing, smocking, baking and flower arranging. Minnie is predeceased by her cousin, Mary Gillespie (nee Powers). She is survived by her husband, Sid; sons, Peter (Jeannie) and David (Wendy); daughter, Sally; cousin, Gretchen Finley (née Powers); grandchildren, Alice (Wilson), Christopher, Jody, Sandy; great-grandchildren, Sasha and Nicholas. Special thanks to Nicole Capson who cared for Minnie during very difficult times, and to caregivers at McNair Manor for their care and kindness during her short stay there, and during her final days at the hospital. A service will be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton (506) 852-3530 on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 1 p.m. followed by a reception in the Garden View Reception Room. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital would be appreciated. A book of condolences may be signed at www.fairhavenmemorial.ca
