Amelia Doyle of Sydney, peacefully passed on Dec. 16, 2012, surrounded by her family.
Amelia was born in Sydney on Feb. 26, 1920, the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine Gorman.
Amelia worked as a pharmacist for Slaven’s Pharmacy and worked for many years at the City Hospital in Sydney. After retiring from the City Hospital she continued to work part time at the Argyle Pharmacy and Lawton Drugs.
She enjoyed life including crafts, knitting, card games, baseball and being with family and friends.
Amelia was an avid artist. Many of her paintings can be seen in the homes of her children and friends.
She was also actively involved in the Catholic Women’s League and was a choir member at St. Theresa’s parish for many years and had the honour of singing in the first choir when St. Theresa’s opened.
Amelia is survived by her children, Tom (Dawn), Eleanor (Grenfell), Gorman (Colleen) and Pat (Darlene), nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; as well as a host of loving friends.
She has been an enormous influence on all who have had the privilege to share time with her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernie Doyle, her brother, Dr. Tom Gorman and her sister, Maisie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to MacGillivray Guest Home. Amelia resided at the MacGillivary Guest home for the past three years and the family sincerely thank the caring staff for their outstanding care and compassion and the parish of St. Theresa Church for their spiritual support throughout her life.
A private family burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
