Tallien Thornton

Tallien "Dolly" Winnifred (nee White) Weatherbee Thornton, age 94, of Amherst passed away peacefully at Gables Lodge on Tuesday, December 18, 2012.
Born in Amherst, she was the youngest daughter of the late Josh and Emma (Landry) White. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being predeceased by seven brothers, Leon, Quincy, Bill, Dosithe, Allan, Cedric and Lester and by six sisters, Thelma, Ethel, Sister Dorothy Marie, Leda, Marjorie and Kathleen.
Dolly was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Weatherbee, and by her second husband, Arthur Thornton. She is survived by dauughter, Joan (Wentzell) Ripley; son, Allan (Pat) Weatherbee; step-son, Douglas Thornton; step-daughter, Marilyn (George) Baptie; grandchildren, Wendy Tardiff, Heather Ripley, Cathy MacLeod Gary Ripley, Ryan Weatherbee, Cory Weatherbee; eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Dollyloved to dance, skate, bowl and play Bingo. She enjoyed many summers at the family cottage at Jackson's Point. Dolly was a beautiful seamstress making clothes and costumes for her family. She was a lifelong member of St. Charles/Holy Family Parish. She was active in the Catholic Women's League, at one time serving a president.
Funeral arrangements for Dolly have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (667-8777) where visitation will take place on Friday from 7 to 9 pm, parish prayers will be held at 8:30. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish Church on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 10 am. Burial in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Lung Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
