BRUCE MERTZ

BRUCE MERTZ

Lieu de naissance : Penticton, Colombie Britannique, Canada
Date de naissance : 21 août 1950

Date de décès : 13 décembre 2012

Passed away peacefully from coronary disease, in his sleep in his favorite chair, December 13, 2012 at the age of 62.

Those left devastated, his best friend and wife of 39 years Diane; son Steven and his fiancée Lori Dangelewicz (the only person brave enough to ever challenge Bruce for his chocolates); his two sisters Maureen (Don) and their family, and Joan. Also left devastated are his 2 best friends from high school, Jim and Harry and their wives, Donna and Barb, endless relatives and many friends. Everyone loved, admired, respected and depended on him for his strength, advice, guidance and especially his sense of humor.

His railroad job started January 1973 and continued until his retirement at the age of 56. A clip from a CN Magazine read: On the job Bruce was renown in his inventiveness. Among his 8 suggestion award-winning ideas for CN is the "automatic ruler 42 flags," a signaling device for track workersÖ This device has saved time thus increasing productivity by removing the chore of installing and removing manual flags morning and evening.

Same magazine clip on a personal note: Bruce and Diane have a "special retirement project." In 1992 they saw a real estate agent pounding his sign in on a lot, right on the lake, in beautiful Red Lake, B.C., 40km from Kamloops. They spent 20 happy years building a cottage and landscaping their property while still living in town. The best part is Bruce and Diane did it all together with their own hands, every nail, and every blister.

The cottage was almost finished when Bruce had his first heart attack and Bruce decided play was as important as productivity. He bought an ATV and then Bruce and Diane quit work everyday, if they worked at all. Together they explored every back road they could find, fished, and spent time enjoying special friends.

He will be cremated and in August along with friends and family he will be free to roam Red Lake forever.

Flowers are declined in favor of charitable donations.
