It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Enos Ford Green Sr., 86, on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
A longtime resident of North Sydney, until he and his wife Jessie moved to Bridgewater earlier this year.
Born in Burgeo, N.L., Enos was the son of the late Rupert and Mary Jane (Clothier) Green.
During the Second World War, Enos served as a civilian fishing in dangerous waters on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland. He later became a welder working at the Heavy Water Plant in Glace Bay and also in construction until his retirement. He was a member of the Royal Albert Masonic Lodge and the Northern Yacht Club and loved boats, being on the water and fishing.
He enjoyed woodworking especially making his famous “birch brooms” and playing cards. Enos was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
Enos was a friend to all, he loved a “yarn” with his buddies. He enjoyed Christmas tradition, Mummering in Newfoundland and a Christmas Day drink with his beloved friends. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie (Peters) Green, Bridgewater; and son, Ford (Patsy) Green, Baddeck; daughters, Jane (William) Standing, PEI, Linda Moore, Annapolis Valley, and Sandra (Geoffrey) Schnare, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Donald (Vivian), Derek (Jamie) and Amanda Standing, Cathy (Armand) Steenbeek, Cheryl Moore (Scott Power), Melissa (Derek) Cogswell, Donald (Jennifer Anderson), Patrick and Joshua Green and Devin Schnare; and also 11 great-grandchildren, Cameron, Emma, Jacob, Tristen, Victoria, Cassandra, Jaydia, Samuel, Jewel, Ethan and Sophia. Also surviving are his sisters, Lizzie Sitland, Halifax, Rosie (Abraham) Cake, Port aux Basques, and Mary Miles, Montreal; sister-in-law, Shirley Green, British Columbia; several nieces and nephews.
Enos was predeceased by his brother, Richard Green, two sisters, Nellie and Annie, infant daughter, Gladys and stillborn baby girl, son-in-law, Larry Moore, granddaughter, Kimberly Dawn Moore, great-granddaughter, Jessica Maria Cogswell, brothers-in-law, George Sitland and George Miles.
The family would like to thank his longtime physician, Dr. John Kirkpatrick, Dr. Haddad and also the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at the South Shore Regional Hospital.
Visitation for Enos will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or St. John the Baptist Anglican Church.
