Born in Mill Creek on Jan. 27, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Emma (Jessome) Marsh. He was a member of St. Joseph parish, Bras d'Or.
Sylvester worked for 45 years in the coal mines; Princess Colliery and the Franklin Mine, and retired from the Prince Mine Colliery in 1989. He enjoyed spending time gardening, camping and playing cards. He will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humour and telling stories of the old days.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Frederick Gouthro; brothers, Theodore, Wilfred, James, Gerald, Tommy and Lawrence; sisters, Marcella, Mary, Regis, Evelyn and Marie.
A special thank you to Dr. Michel McKeough, the staff at the Northside General Hospital and to his nephew, Ted Marsh, for all the Sunday afternoons spent with dad. Thank you also to Fr. Peter MacLeod for your kindness and compassion during this difficult time.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d'Or, with Fr. Peter MacLeod officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery. A reception will be held in the parish hall, following the service.
