We are very sad to announce the passing of Douglas Haig MacKenzie, son of the late Thomas and Amelia MacKenzie of Sydney Mines.
Doug passed away peacefully after a short illness in Baddeck where he and his wife Pauline lived for the last 20 years.
Doug MacKenzie, better known as D.H was a practising doctor and surgeon for over 50 years in Sydney, N.S. He was always an active person, a member of the Masons and an avid fisherman and golfer. His love of fiddle music led him to his hobby of making fiddles although he always said he could never play very well.
He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Sydney and Knox Presbyterian church in Baddeck.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Edna and Helen and his brother, Jim.
He is a survived by his wife, Pauline; sister, Charlotte and his children, Steven, Bill, Amelia, Bruce and Joan; his grandchildren, Julia and Zosia.
Cremation has taken place under care and direction of MacAskill Funeral Home. There will be no visitation. A service to be held at a later date with his ashes being scattered along Margaree River.
