ANDREWS, EDITH MURIEL - Edith Andrews of Long Reach, NB, wife of Douglas Andrews, passed away January 2, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born July 28, 1916, daughter of the late Fred and Greta (Cunningham) Olive. Edith was a primary school teacher who, before marriage, taught for many years in Saint John. Her love of children also spread into the Guiding movement where she served as District Commissioner and Provincial Camp Advisor. She was a member of the board of the YWCA. She loved her canoeing and outdoor life and was a regular member of Dr. McIntosh’s canoe parties in the 1930’s and 1940’s. After marriage, she lived successively in Halifax, Montreal and Beloeil, QC. In Beloeil, she resumed her professional career through substitute teaching in several schools. For a short period, she lived in Oakville, ON, from which she and her husband moved to their retirement home at Long Reach. Edith was always active in her church. After retirement she became the organist in St. James’ Church for many years and served other functions within the Anglican parish. She enjoyed her Long Reach home with its river flowing by and the abundant rural wildlife. She is survived by her husband, Doug; son, Peter Andrews (Diane) of Nepean, ON; daughter, Charlotte Feil (Andrew) of Saint John; four granddaughters, Mandy, Trish, Natalie, Chantal; nephew, Murray Olive (Carolyn), and nieces, Nancy Paaske (Per), and Betty Olive. She was predeceased by one brother, Stanley Olive.
Resting at Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, with visitation on Friday from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. The funeral will be held 2:00pm, Saturday, January 5, 2013 at St. James’ Church, Long Reach. Interment in St. James Cemetery in the spring.
