Annie Moore Glenn
1931 - 2012
Annie Moore Glenn, 81, of Lower Cove, Cumberland County, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2012. Born on June 17, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Irving Alexander Smith and Mabel Mary (Bourgeois) Smith of Lower Cove.
Annie was employed at the T.E. Eaton Company, Moncton, and the Canadian Bank of Commence, and Enamel and Heating, Amherst, and taught elementary school in Lower Cove. In later years she worked for Elections Canada and Census Canada and was a Notary Public.
Annie loved the local community and was a dedicated volunteer for many years with the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, and the Canadian Kidney Foundation. Annie was a past member of the Cumberland County School Board and the River Hebert and Joggins Development Committee and past secretary-treasurer of the Joggins Improvement Committee. In 2007 she was named Municipality of the County of Cumberland District 9 Volunteer of the Year.
Annie attended St. Alban’s Anglican Church in River Hebert and was a member of the Mayflower Rebekah Lodge #21, of which she was past Noble Grand, past president of Rebekah District Meeting, and secretary and past president of the Mayflower Rebekah Lodge #21 Past Noble Grands Club. She was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Annie had a life-long love of words. She was a voracious reader, with a particular interest in the history of World War I and in poetry. She was an avid Scrabble player and enjoyed solving the daily newspaper crossword puzzle. She was also a dedicated quilter and a member of the River Hebert sewing group.
Annie is survived by Reginald, her husband of 58½ years; two daughters, Laurie (Barry Norris) of Lower Kingsclear, NB, and Maureen (Gordon Glennie) of River Hebert, NS; two sons, Alton (Daphna) of St. John’s, NF and Labrador and Gordon (Louise) of Irishtown, NB; four beloved grandchildren, Rachel, Ian, Eamonn, and Elizabeth, with a great-grandchild expected soon; two sisters, Beatrice (Edgar Burgess) of Amherst and Catherine (Chester van der Kooi) of Upper Nine Mile River, NS; and three brothers, Darrell of Halifax, David (Diane) of Lower Cove, and Allen of Amherst. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Robert.
A memorial service will be held in the spring at St. Alban’s Anglican Church in River Hebert with interment in the River Hebert Cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
