Gordon Huntington
Lieu de naissance : Cape Breton, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 3 janvier 2013
It is with much sadness the family of Gordon Charles Huntington announce his peaceful passing at his home on Jan. 3, 2013, surrounded by his children and his adoring bride of 43 years, Elaine.
Gord inspired us all, fighting his battle with cancer in the same faith-filled spirit that characterized his approach to all of the challenges and adventures in his life. His heart's desire in life and throughout his illness was to bear testimony to the transforming and saving power of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Born in Sydney N.S. on June 14, 1947 he was a son of Harry Allan Huntington and the late Karen Lillian Huntington (Mikkelsen).
Raised in Huntington, Cape Breton, Gord graduated from Riverview Rural High School in 1965. He was an ROTP student at Mount Allison University and Nova Scotia Technical College, earning his Bachelor of Engineering in 1970. After serving four years in the Canadian Armed Forces, he began his career with Michelin, where he was a dedicated employee for 35 years. His career took him throughout North America, Europe and Asia, where he and his family enjoyed the benefits of travel and experiencing new cultures. The highlight of his career was his pioneering work in lean manufacturing and his integral role in the development of the Michelin Manufacturing Way (MMW).
Gord was a member of Pleasantville Baptist Church, where he took part in the Men's Fellowship. He facilitated many Alpha courses around the world. He enjoyed skiing, biking, kayaking and photography. He was happiest when with his family at home in Nova Scotia.
Memories of Gord will be cherished by loving wife, Elaine (nee Corey); children, Corey, Ottawa, Ont.; Katrina (Greg Stainton), Aylmer, Que; Caleb, Salt Spring Island, B.C.; Jordan (Patricia Irivarren), Kanata, Ont; grandchildren, Rachel, Vincent, Isaac, Ivy and Santiago; siblings, Russell (Pearl), Marion Bridge, N.S.; Hazel (Paul) McPhee, Aurora, Ont.; David (Ann Marie Richard), Memramcook, N.B.; Ken (Kathy), Dartmouth, N.S.; and Kathy (Robert) Bell, Marion Bridge. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg, where visitation will take place on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Christian funeral to celebrate Gord’s life will be held at Pleasantville Baptist Church on Monday at 11 a.m., Rev. Mitchell Foley officiating. Private family interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to cancer research, Ghana Rural Integrated Development (grid-nea.org) or the Missionaries of Charity.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ewart Morse and Dr. Heather Robertson, who by their exceptional care and personal sacrifice, helped give Gordie more quality time with us.
