Marion Elaine Partridge (MacDonald)
Marion passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown on Jan. 9, shortly after a wonderful Christmas spent with family in Toronto.
Marion was the beloved wife of Brenton for 48 years; loving mother to Anne and Elaine (Bill Tebbutt); and proud grandmother to Samantha and Chloe. Marion is survived by her loving sister, Dorothy Taylor, and loving brother, Robert MacDonald (Grace), and many nieces and nephews.
Marion was predeceased by her adored parents, West and Mattie (MacLeod) MacDonald; her bother, Ronald; and sister, Marjorie.
Marion was born on Glasgow Road, Ebenezer, P.E.I., on Nov. 2, 1932, the youngest child of West and Mattie. She attended a one-room school house on the MacDonald property until she went to Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown. Marion’s first job was with J.W. Windsor on Water St. in Charlottetown. Marion was skilled with numbers and was in the accounting field her entire career. She retired as Controller of the P.E.I. Potato Marketing Board in 1993.
Marion and Brent spent 45 memorable summers at their cherished cottage in Cumberland where they welcomed and hosted friends, families and strangers with open arms and a full fridge. They spent many winter weeks in sunny Florida with Anne and Elaine visiting and always with family and friends close by. Though she could not swim, Marion loved the beach and always arrived armed with sandwiches and drinks for Brent, the kids and anyone else who happened along.
Marion was a champion badminton player and curler and loved a non-competitive game of golf. She was a keen card player and loved a hand with family and friends and also enjoyed her years as a devoted member of her bridge club. Marion loved the daily crossword; a cup of tea; a good book; and the occasional beer.
Family came first and foremost for Marion, and she loved and cherished spending time with her loved ones, to whom she devoted her entire life.
Anne and Elaine are eternally grateful for their mother’s unconditional love and for all she did for them throughout her life.
Marion was a lifelong member of Brookfield Presbyterian Church, where she and Brent were married. They enjoyed worshiping at St. Mark’s in Sherwood and in later years, at Zion in Charlottetown. In the summer months, Brent and Marion loved to attend services at Nine Mile Creek and Canoe Cove Presbyterian churches.
Marion, a breast cancer survivor, was a dedicated volunteer with the Island Hospice Association for over 15 years.
Brent, Anne and Elaine would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to friends and family for all of their support the past week and to the wonderful nursing staff in the Provincial Acute Stroke Unit at the QEH for the compassionate care Marion received in her final days.
Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. Funeral Saturday from Zion Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Interment later in Brookfield Cemetery.
