KATHLEEN MARION MARTIN

KATHLEEN MARION MARTIN

Lieu de naissance : New Westminster, Colombie Britannique, Canada

Date de décès : 2 janvier 2013

Beloved mother, sister, aunt, "GRauntie" and amazing friend, Kathi peacefully passed away at The Marjorie Willoughby Snowdon Hospice (Kamloops) on Sunday, December 2nd, 2012 with her daughter Ashli holding her hand. Kathi's heart, beautiful smile, and infectious laugh will be sorely missed by her family, friends and cherished companions - pets Joey and Tehya.

Born in New Westminster, BC, raised in Burnaby, Kathi graduated from Burnaby North in 1968. In 1972, Kathi moved to Kamloops where she worked for the school district first as a T.A. at Fitzwater and then as a school secretary. Her time there was special to her, and many years down the road she would have former students approach her to have a chat, always approaching her as "Ms. Church". Beginning in 1979, she became a busy entrepreneur of many companies - co-founding Interior Buy & Sell Ltd. (of which she was especially proud), Mommy & Me, and for 15 years, Craft Connections at the KXA.

Ms. Church soon became Mrs. Martin after meeting her future husband Dave through a friend. The two went on a blind date, played many games of racquetball and married after about a year. With the birth of her daughter Ashli in 1986, the paper was sold to allow her to stay at home and enjoy motherhood. After finishing her Real Estate certification and dabbling in a few things here and there, she returned to the work force full time at Giant Steps, giving her a chance to work with some of the staff that she greatly admired from Fitzwater.

Always a person that enjoyed working with children, she later took on a job with SD#73 as a secretary and worked in several elementary schools, making many friends along the way, until her illness forced her to take medical leave.

Kathi was a warm and loving spirit with an uninhibited sense of humor that often sparked the nuttiness in others. Her premature exit at 62 is a loss to a world never more desperately in need of sane voices, like hers - and humorous reminders of our human-ness, of which she had a knack for. She was kind, thoughtful, creative and artistic. She always had a project ... or 2, or 3 on the go. She expressed her creativity and artistic vision in her drawings, photography and soapstone carvings. These creative ventures were of great comfort to her as her disease progressed. Kathi did not always have an easy life, but the poise in which she took on her disease is one that those who were close with her, marveled at. She was strong and brave beyond words, striking a chord with many throughout her life with her words of wisdom.

She would want us to remember to take time, and without fear, to "dance in the rain". There are many chapters of Kathi's life that cannot all be covered in such a small space, but the impact that her presence had on those whose lives she graced, will be forever remembered and treasured in private times.

Predeceased by her beloved parents Syd and Marion Church of Burnaby, and husband Dave Martin, her memory will be lovingly held dear by her daughter Ashli; siblings Barbara (Ed) Collins, Norm Church, Sydney McGillis; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins across Canada.

Over the years she made many friends who brought their own unique and special gifts to her life. Thank-you to all for your support and caring. The family would also like to express their immense thanks to the staff of the Marjorie Willoughby Snowdon Hospice for their wonderful care, attention and respect during such a difficult time. Thank you for providing her with dignity and love during a period where both were so needed. Special thanks to Kathi's treasured friend Joan, neighbor Gilbert, and niece in-law Bonnie, all of whom went above and beyond.

Should friends desire, please consider a donation to Marjorie Willoughby Snowdon Hospice in Kathi's name, in lieu of flowers.

A date for the Celebration of Kathi's life will take place in late Spring to allow for safer travel for guests. If you wish to be notified please email symcgillis@shaw.ca

Kathi,
"Goodbyes are only for those
who love with eyes
Because, for those who love
with heart and soul, there is
no such thing as separation."
