The death occurred at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, of Frances Penelope "Penzie" McAleer (nee Reid), wife of the late Gavin McAleer, of Andrews Lodge and formerly of St. Patrick’s, age 96. Penzie was the beloved mother of Mary Dunn (Willie), Tom (Leona), Florence Larkin (Eugene), Jimmy (Carolyn) and Ann Pratt (Jim); and the loving grandmother of 15, great-grandmother of 28; and great-great-grandmother of one grandson. She is also survived by her brothers, Louis and Justin; and many nieces and nephews. Penzie was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Flora (O’Connor) Reid; brothers, Tom (Alma) and D.B. (Rosa); sister, Eileen (Wilfred); and sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Kay and Isabelle. Resting at Central Queen’s Funeral Home, 2538 Glasgow Road, New Glasgow, for visitation on Monday, Jan. 14, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The CWL will hold a prayer service at the funeral home Monday evening at 6:40 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, Hope River, on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 10:30 a.m. Interment in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
