TUCHSCHERER, Joe, born October 17, 1944 in Leader, SK died January 9, 2013 in Swift Current at the age of 68. He died of Pancreatic Cancer but never suffered pain. Joe was the fourth of seven sons born to Stanley and Katie Tuchscherer, raised on the family farm in Portreeve, SK. He moved to Swift Current at age 17 when he began his career as a chef, and received his journeyman’s ticket at age 19. Joe started at the Modern Family Restaurant, then worked 36 years at the Horseshoe Lodge, followed by the Akropol for 14 years. Joe married his first wife, Bev (Blodgett) in October of 1970. They raised their children, Kevin and Michelle in Swift Current. He instilled in his children a good work ethic, and he took great pride in them. Joe lost his first wife to cancer in 1991. He was remarried to Vivian (Beisel) in 2000. Joe enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, playing cards, dancing and playing music. He had many friends and family, and he always had time to visit. He was a generous man, and always willing to help. He was a perfectionist and did every job to the best of his ability. He was a devoted Catholic and helped out every year carving turkeys at the Fowl Supper. Joe loved his family deeply and loved spending time with his grandchildren; he had hoped he could teach them more life lessons. Joe was predeceased by his first wife Bev Tuchscherer (Blodgett), 1991, mother Katherine Tuchscherer (Meyer), 1983, father Stanley Tuchscherer, 2005, eldest brother John Tuchscherer, 2007, father-in-law Clarence Blodgett, 1968, mother-in-law Edith Blodgett (Murch), 1979, sister-in-law Judy Brilz (Blodgett), 1989, brother-in-law Gordon Brilz, 2009, sister-in-law Donna Carignan, 2011, father-in-law David Beisel, 2004, and mother-in-law Molly Beisel, 2009. Joe is survived by his wife Vivian, son Kevin (Wendy nee Gatzke), daughter Michelle (Brad Fennig), stepchildren Marcy Thoreson and Sheldon Keith, grandchildren Keely and Nathan Tuchscherer, Cutler and Payton Fennig, Christina Dueck (Thoreson; Nathan Dueck), Mercedes Thoreson (E.J. Smith), Porsche and Calvin Thoreson, and great-grandchildren Dante, Damian Mitchell and Jared Dueck and Tamara Thoreson, brothers Charlie (Carol) Tuchscherer, Roy (Merle) Tuchscherer, Don (Idella) Tuchscherer, Harvey (Laurie) Tuchscherer, and Garnet (Brenda) Tuchscherer, brothers-in-law Harvey (Judy) Blodgett, Harold (Doris) Blodgett, Lawrence (Laura) Blodgett and Alfred Blodgett, sisters-in-law Maxine (Beisel) Heiser (Jack) and Pearl (Beisel) Wedrick (Bruce) and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. We will all remember Joe as a gentle, kind and considerate husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Christ The Redeemer Roman Catholic Church. The interment was held at Mount Pleasant Burial Park, Swift Current, SK.
