With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father and “Grampy” Douglas Rupert Hare, on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born May 15, 1930, to Rupert and Rebecca (Billard) Hare, Doug was a lifelong resident of Peppett Street in North Sydney.
Spending over 40 years working with CN Marine and later Marine Atlantic in North Sydney, he took enjoyment in bowling, decorating for holidays and in general, being social. An active parishioner of St. John Anglican Church, North Sydney, Doug was a welcome sight to those unable to attend services, making sure they were kept informed and running errands for many.
Precious to him was Joy, his daughter. In later years, Doug added to his pleasure when he became a grandfather to Joy and Bruce’s son, Jordan.
Lovingly married for 52 years to Virginia ‘Gen’ (Gerrow) Hare, he missed her dearly upon her passing. He now joins his wife, parents; brothers, Edward, Sanford, Leslie, Berkley and Alphonse; along with sisters, Kathleen Sullivan and Hazel MacKenna, in eternal rest.
Doug will be missed by his daughter, Joy (Bruce) Eavis; grandson, Jordan; brother, Lloyd (Flo) Hare; his many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, at St. John Anglican Church, with Rev. Carl Fraser and Rev. Gloria McClure-Fraser officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, at a later date.
