NEW GLASGOW – James Patrick “Pat” Casey, 92, New Glasgow, died Saturday, February 9, in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit with friends at his side.
He was born on March 1, 1920 to Dennis Henry Casey and Eva (DeGruchy) Casey of Canso, Nova Scotia.
He was predeceased by brothers, Clayton and Stephen; sisters: Margaret, Blanche and Mary, step-brother Daniel, step-sisters, Mary and Sadie.
Pat is survived by cousin Rose Brown, Dartmouth and nephew Tom Casey (Jane), Lourdes, as well as many other nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by friends Al and Bernice Law; Wayne and Peggy Young; and Karen Leil; also by his Autumn Crest buddies: Marg, Jeanette and Christa. Pat will be fondly remembered by his many Branch 34 Legion friends and comrades.
He was a World War II Veteran and saw active service in England, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. He served with the Princess Louise Fusiliers and was awarded the Liberation of Holland Medal. He was a carpenter by trade and was employed with Fraser, Mason and Fraser.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. Burial will be at a later date.
Donations in his memory may be made to Royal Canadian Legion Br. 34 Poppy Fund.
