Amos McNair Kelly

KELLY, AMOS MCNAIR - Amos McNair Kelly passed away at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Perth-Andover, NB on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the age of 92. He was born in Andover on November 29, 1920, the only child of Pringle and Zetta (North) Kelly. Amos was a career welder who worked on merchant marine ships in St. Andrews during WW II. He was employed by Armstrong Brothers, George McLaughlin and Clayton Goodine. He was a life-long musician, having learned to play fiddle at the age of nine. He became proficient at playing both the button and piano accordians. In his early years he was a member of the Corn Huskers, a band which played at venues in and around Victoria County. He was a down-east musician of renown. Together with his music partner Kathleen McCarthy, he produced two compact discs of Maritime music: Fireside Tunes and Kitchen Favourites. He is survived by one daughter Ann Muscat (Joseph), Burlington, ON and one son, Donald (Barbara), Oromocto, NB; grandchildren Kelly Austin (Brent) ON, Michael Muscat ON, Rebecca Kelly, AB and Tim Kelly, NB; great-grandchildren Dalton, ON, Dakota, ON and Tyler Muscat, ON. As well good friends Kathleen and Francis McCarthy. He was predeceased by his wife Phyllis Arvella (Pirie) as well as grandchildren Shawn Muscat, ON and Robert Aaron Kelly, NB.
Visitation will be held at White's Funeral Home, 20 Industrial Park St., Perth-Andover on Sunday, February 17th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral service will take place at St. James United Church, West Riverside Dr. Perth-Andover at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 18th with Reverend Steven Longmore officiating. A reception in St. James United Church hall will follow the service. Interment in the Presbyterian Cemetery will occur on a date to be determined in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made to the Presbyterian Cemetery Foundation, The Red Cross Association, St. James United Church Building Fund or the donor's choice.
