Launa Mathias - 98, formerly of Arlan Gwili, Hendy, went to her rest peacefully on Saturday, February 16 at Llys y Bryn . She will be deeply missed by her foster daughter Anne Mathias Moses of South Ohio, Canada and her nephews Robert Mathias (Enfield), Stuart Mathias (Anne) Llangennech, and Christopher Mathias (Pontardulais). She was a devoted great aunt to nephews Jamie (Nola) Moses and family (South Ohio), Brian (Tamara) Moses and family (South Ohio), Adam (Rachel) Mathias and family (Pontypridd), and cherished great aunt to nieces Sarah (Andrew) Shupe and family (Sackville), Coralee (Gilles)Robichaud and family (South Ohio), Amy (Rob) Baker and family Llangennech, Kate (Dan) Reed and family Llangennech, and Elizabeth (Jeremy) Sullivan and family (South Ohio). She will also be missed by her dear sister in law and friend Dorma Mathias and by many cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her brothers John, Emlyn and Gwilim, and by great niece Caroline Rose Robichaud. Launa was a woman who loved the Lord, she was a faithful member of Capel Newydd for over 90 years, an avid reader, a keen historian and genealogist who loved to share her many memories of growing up in a close and unique community through two world wars and the great depression. Launa was a trained and accomplished seamstress who found pleasure in sharing her creations with family, friends and community. She had an enquiring mind and was a lifelong learner. She enjoyed her weekly coffee mornings at Arlan Gwili, and her attendance at Age Concern where her presence will be sorely missed . Services were held at Capel Newydd on Monday 24th February.
