Our hearts are broken and our dreams shattered on the passing of William P. Skehans, of Bell Island, on February 23, 2013 at the age of 60. Predeceased by his parents: William and Nina (Kane) and his brother Ralph. He leaves to mourn his devoted wife Margaret (Brazil) of 37 years; his treasured son Todd (Jennifer); and his prized possessions grandsons: William and Ryder. Also leaving to mourn are his brothers and sisters and their families whom he cherished and shared special memories. He held an extra place in his heart for his sister Joan for her dedication to the family on the untimely death of their mother in 1959. He also leaves to mourn his many fellow musicians, lifelong friends, former co-workers, and special buddy, Reg, who truly defines the word “friend.” Bill’s illness brought three special ladies into our lives: Paulette, Alana, and Alison (community health nurses); as well as a special lady, Lillian Mitchell, whose care and comfort made it possible for Bill to spend his last days at home. Special thanks to Drs. Laurie, Brown, Rorke and all the staff at the H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre. Very special thanks also to the staff at the Dr. W. Templeman Hospital, Bell Island, for their exceptional care during Bill’s stay. Bill has left a lasting impression on all who knew him. It is the kindness of people and the warmth we feel from those who shared in his life that will hopefully bring us consolation. Bill will be remembered as a man of great stature and a heart to match. While he battled cancer, he remained his gentle self through it all and with an appreciation of every breath he took. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations maybe made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre or St. Michael’s Parish, Bell Island. Visitation at Pendergast’s Funeral Home, Bell Island on Monday and Tuesday from 12:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael’s Parish on Wednesday, February 27th at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at R.C. Cemetery.
