Hazel Murphy, age 89 of Joggins, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in River Hebert, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Ellen (Grant) Henwood.
Hazel was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, Joggins, as well as the Joggins Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid rummy player and enjoyed bingo. Family was very important to Hazel and she enjoyed time spent with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters; Joan (Murray) Melanson of Lakeville, NB and Evelyn (Wayne) Patterson of Joggins; sons James of Joggins, Todd (Jeanette) of Joggins, Gary of Joggins, and Doug of Sudbury, ON; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; brothers, Bernard (Marilyn) Grant of River Hebert, and George (Linda) Grant of River Hebert; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eldon Murphy; sisters Annie and Edith, and brothers, Gordon and Alfred.
Arrangements have entrusted to Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, River Herbert (902-251-8777). Family and friends are invited to visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 11 am from the Joggins United Church. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Hazel may do so to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Lung Association.
